What a great picnic we had this Sunday, April 9, 2017. Wyatt and a bunch of his buddies and all of us parental units met up at Foothills Park in Palo Alto. With so much rain this year, it was a welcome change to the last five years of dry creek beds! The water was cold and clear and the kids loved it. Soaking from head to toe by the time he was through, we stripped Wyatt down at the end and wrapped him in a blanket for the ride home. This was how I grew up. In Lucas Valley in Marin County, Miller Creek threads for about five miles through neighborhood after neighborhood. My friends and I would spend half of each summer stomping up and down its length, building, digging, catching, exploring, pretending. In Palo Alto, we don't have the same kind of creek access or hill access for that matter. These days, everything has a fence around it and hours for enjoyment -- at best. While my creek growing up wasn't wild, it also wasn't locked up and under guard. In any event, it was food for my soul to see Wyatt's joy at having a creek for a playground. Every kid needs a creek.
